Where have we been?
Hello PoLa-Verse!
I know that it has been a long year + of vague updates on IG and FB from all of us here at PoLa and for that I apologize. I’m sure it sounds terrible and maybe slightly irresponsible but truly, the chaos has been such that I can hardly muster time enough to function like a human in my own self let alone in a social and business setting. Because of that, my ability to keep y’all in the loop has clearly shown some flaws. So, I wanted to share the abridged version of what has been going on so that we can at least all be on the same page. Or at least on the same chapter in the book of pierogi.
In December, after our very busy 2021, I ended up emergently in the hospital for a few different medical conundrums. In the midst of trying to sort out those exciting ventures, I then managed a dominant hand injury rendering any appropriate level of pierogi pinching and pickle prep nearly impossible for quite a few months. So, since floppy and flaccid pierogi are unacceptable in any situation, we took the time off that we needed and figured we could use the unexpected hiatus as a means of rebranding/revamping our business model and learning about the new pop-up requirements in the city. We went through all the motions to get healthy with a game plan of returning around Easter time or shortly thereafter. But, I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that making it back on the scene in time for Easter was a no-go. What’s worse, is that at the current juncture we can’t even offer an idea of when we will be back in full capacity.
In September of 2022, I found out that I will be having a double mastectomy on February 9th, 2023 with a second revisional surgery in May of the same year. The recovery is not expected to be quick or easy when considering all of the underlying chaos and this procedure chances bringing some of my other usually well managed chronic conditions out of remission. We have been scrambling (to say the least) to find all of the ducks that are supposed to be in a row so that we can then find a pond to put said ducks on where they can then float about happily while bobbing for snacks or whatever it is these ducks bob for. Point is…it’s been hard to find ducks when you maybe originally had chickens. It’s chaos.
I will update again once the first surgery is completed so that everyone can be kept in the loop as to when a pierogi return may occur. But, in transparency…it’s likely going to be awhile.
So, that is the general idea of what has been keeping our fancy little fingers from pinching those wonderful little dumplings for the last 13 months. And while it could be worse, it certainly has been quite a journey that does not appear to be anyway close to being completed. We thank y’all for checking in, reaching out, and just generally being kind.
You’re the best.
Can’t wait to be back in the pop up world and see you all again!
