pop up- sunday february 16th 2025 2-5pm
Ah, the old pop up game. Twas an activity that just a few short years ago we would have considered ourselves starting players in. We maybe could’ve even argued that we were on track for a collegiate scholarship of sorts as well but, then life lifed real hard and we became perpetual benchwarmers in the small business league. Turns out, the break was in fact necessary and maybe even more than a bit needed since we were definitely running on fumes at the end of it all anyway. Working 2.75 full time jobs, one freelance gig, and running a pierogi/pickle business all at the same time can suck the energy force right out of ya if you let it. Hell, it’ll suck the energy force right out of ya even if you don’t let it. But, I digress.
Looking back on our humble beginnings, we were lucky enough to be given our first opportunity at Broad Street Cider where we did our first pop up ever and continued to sling our goods most every Friday until our hiatus. Along the way, we secured even more locations and usually ended up doing 2 pop ups a weekend unless we were feeling really wily and triple stacked ourselves. I’m here to say that this path is not recommended by yours truly. But you do you, boo boo because everyone is into varying intensities of self torture and you can choose your own adventure.
Anyhow, once the medical conundrums took over our existence, it was easy to put all the small business shenanigans in an old suitcase in our metaphorical storage unit where they could keep each other company and discuss all of our shortcomings. After awhile, it almost seemed easier to just keep them there. Too many dust mites and not enough moth balls or cedar chips for my liking.
It really was nice to not have the added responsibilities of a booked pop up schedule or having to manage correspondence while also trying to heal from 2 pretty massive surgeries and the first year of our sabbatical was a blur. Before we knew it, the second year was almost a wrap as well. We remembered that time makes no sense, ever, and to quote the ever important 10th Doctor from Doctor Who, “People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a nonlinear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.” and a truer statement has never been spoken. Those 2 years were most definitely wibbly wobbly and very timey wimey. It’s like it was in the back of our heads that we needed to pull the suitcase out of storage, dust everything off, and jump back in the saddle, but it also felt impossible to do so. Until it didn’t.
I’d say I wasn’t sure what the catalyst was to just stop avoiding and relaunch but that’d be a lie. It simply was the fact that this year’s annual Wigilia frozen pierogi sale hit different and we had a plethora of new clients seemingly excited about being able to attend a pop up or visit a brick and mortar (which we definitely do not have now and likely will not in the future unless the current economy shifts). I realized that as I was doling out those pierogi pre-orders, every other statement out of my face hole leaned heavily on “yes, of course we update the website and socials with our upcoming pop up schedule and we plan to be back on the scene in the beginning of the new year!” It just sort of happened. And then we just sort of said, “enough bullshitting. It’s time”
So here we are. First pop up back after 2+ years is on the books and we’re hoping to do one a month from here on out until we’re properly back in the swing of it all. Check back here for updated schedules and news.
And be sure to come see us next month for some made to order Pierogi and other Eastern European goodies like Haluski and Gołąbki. There will also be pints and quarts of various pickles for purchase and a couple really exciting specials on the board!
Sunday February 16th between 2pm-5pm (or sell out) at Oak Street Brewery.
